Golden Retriever - The Golden Retriever is a relatively modern and very popular breed of dog. It was developed as a retrieving dog to use while hunting wild fowl.
Goldendoodle - The term Goldendoodle (Golden Doodle) describes a hybrid dog, crossbred between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. This hybrid is often said to have begun in Australia, along with the Labradoodle; US fanciers challenge this assertion.
Golden spike - The golden spike is a gold railroad spike which was hammered in by Leland Stanford to commemorate the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the world, when the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads met on May 10, 1869 at Promontory Summit in Box Elder County in the Utah Territory, now part of northern Utah. The spike was not actually pure gold--instead, the spike was made of a mix of different kinds of metals.
